Use it, or lose it! Partners please note! (22/10/2020)
Some ascribe this saying to a certain Jean de la Fontaine who way back in the 1600's said: "Use alone constitutes possession.." [NY Times]. Since then it has been used by many to relate use to the ravages of time, not least to mental and physical decline. Most famously perhaps was Chris Barnard [World-first South African heart-transplant surgeon - yes, we are more than just the World Rugby Champions] who famously said: "Use it, Or Lose it!" in reference to the health of the heart and implying every [yes Every!] sort of exercise had benefits for the heart and longevity. It comes then as a surprise that a few would-be kayak owners report that their intention to invest in a kayak had been curtailed by an otherwise doting partner. It seems partners would rather have them pay for heart surgery, post-stroke rehabilitation and chronic medication which may run into astronomical amounts, than allow a once-off, minor indulgence in a kayak which may not only delay the onset of dread diseases, but certainly enhance the quality of the remaining healthy times! It's a thought that certainly bears some consideration. If not now, then when??
