TRAINING OF COMMERCIAL ["PRO']
SEA KAYAK ADVENTURE GUIDES
Under the previous SATOUR dispensation, RECSKASA, was the only
association which was accredited with the training and registering
of sea kayak guides. Attempts by others to train sea kayak guides
in opposition to this legitimate training of sea kayak guides were
done in conflict with this accreditation. Under the new dispensation,
effective from 2002, training is not the exclusive province of associations
anymore and now associations as well as individuals can register
as trainers of commercial guides, if they meet the requirements.
TRAINING OF RECREATIONAL SEA
PADDLERS.
In respect of the training of recreational ["non-commercial"]
sea kayak paddlers, trainers can also become registered as recreational
sea kayak trainers and offer such training. Anybody charging for
training, whether it's for commercial or recreational paddling purposes,
must be a registered trainer offering accredited courses which conform
to the standards which have been set and registered on the NQF [the
National Qualifications Network], recorded by SAQA [the South African
Qualifications Authority] and executed by the appropriate THETA
[Tourism, Hospitality, Education and Training Authority].
